The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has restated his commitment to taking persons with disabilities (PWDs) out of all facets of neglect and abandonment.
The ES made this assertion recently in Abuja when he received in the audience a team from Multi-Link Vanguard, a coalition of PWDs who came to identify with the burgeoning Commission and to seek areas of collaboration.
“Inclusion is the hallmark, and we must make sure that all groups of PWDs are on the same page in order to achieve our common goal. We are all goaltenders of inclusive government and must not concede any loophole,” he emphasized.
Lalu further promised to employ the services and expertise of the group during the forthcoming disability summit, which is slated to take place later in the year.
This year’s summit will attract personalities from all walks of life as it promises to accomplish a lot that will benefit the cause of persons with disabilities in Nigeria, the commission is willing to work with your team in order to achieve all-inclusiveness for our people,” he reiterated.
The spokesman of the group, Mr. Ukange Sebastian, who was visibly elated by Mr. Lalu’s amiable disposition, stated that the achievements of the Commission within this short time of its establishment are laudable.
He further stated that their mission to the Commission is mainly to show appreciation to the ES for his dogged feat.
“We thank you for your gallant feats at repositioning the status and functionality of the disabled community in Nigeria with efficient and selfless management of the affairs and the mandate of our noble Commission in spite of the constraints that come with the job.“
The highlights of the visit were the decoration of the ES with the group’s emblems and the presentation of the books published by them on the way forward to disability inclusion, which the ES promised would be reviewed by the Commission and made available to the public.
