The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Oyo State Command, is said to have detained 18 foreigners for allegedly carrying Nigerian voter ID cards.

Isah Dansuleiman, the state’s NIS Comptroller, announced Wednesday in Ibadan at a stakeholder sensitization on 2023 general elections themed: “Credible Elections in Nigeria: What is Expected of Migrants Before, During, and After the Elections”.

The Comptroller said that the foreigners violated the law of the land and were instantly repatriated to their various countries of origin.

“Foreigners must not be involved in the 2023 general elections,” said Dansulaiman. “You are allowed to stay in Nigeria provided you have your documents but that does not make you a Nigerian.”

He further said, “No migrant, regardless of their status, should participate in the 2023 general elections, and any migrant caught in possession of a voter’s card will face the full wrath of the law.”

Mr. Dansuleiman urged Nigerians to alert authorities to any immigrant who attempts to vote in the general elections. He gave Nigerians the reassurance that the command would not waver in its efforts to ensure that the general elections in 2023 are free, fair, and credible.

While urging foreigners in the country to come and register to avoid embarrassment, Dansuleiman ensured that Migrant e-registration is ongoing to register foreigners. Enough machines that will capture their biometrics were provided.
