Gunmen have abducted an unknown number of passengers from a train station in Edo State’s Igueben Local Government Area.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the happenings in a statement and said that numerous victims of the brutal attack were injured.
The victims were apparently waiting to board a train to Warri in Delta State when the gunmen broke into the station and began firing indiscriminately.
“The kidnappers who shot sporadically into the air before kidnapping some passengers left some persons with bullet wounds. The Area Commander, Irrua; the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) Igueben Division, and their men have visited the crime scene with members of Edo State Security Network, local vigilantes, and hunters with a view to protecting the lives and property of the remaining passengers.
“Bush combing operations have commenced in order to rescue the victims and arrest the fleeing kidnappers. Further development will be communicated,”
At the time this report was submitted, it was still uncertain if anyone had died in the incident.
This happened just over a year ago when terrorists who are assumed to be Boko Haram militants attacked a train going from Abuja to Kaduna and abducted many passengers.
