Ibrahim Shekarau, a senator from Kano Central, has stated that he will not accept the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) offer of another senatorial seat.

Following the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25, the former governor was responding to the Independent National Election Commission’s statement that he had won the Kano Central senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

The former governor of Kano State, who skipped the ceremony at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Tuesday to receive the Certificate of Return given to senator-elects, further explains that he has since left the NNPP.

His media assistant, Sule Y. Sule, told reporters on Wednesday that his boss wouldn’t be picking up the Certificate of Return.

He was quoted as saying, “We have already made our position clear on the issue. Senator Shekarau is not interested and will not collect the certificate of return. As a matter of principles and personal conviction.”
