Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunday Ubua’s appeal, in which he requested to be released on bail, was denied by the Abuja Court of Appeal.

Ubua is an associate of the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Supercop Abba Kyari.

Ubua is being prosecuted for drug-related offenses by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The decision made by Judge Nwite on March 28, 2022, was upheld by a three-member panel of the appellate court on Friday, concluding that Ubua’s appeal lacked substance.

Ubua’s application for bail was denied in the March 28 ruling because the prosecution had presented enough evidence to the judge to support its denial.

In the lead opinion, Judge Stephen Adah affirmed that the appellant should have provided new evidence to the court in order to support the court’s departure from Justice Emeka Nwite’s earlier ruling from the Federal High Court of Abuja.

Ubua is on trial with Kyari and three other ex-members of the Nigeria Police Force special squad for allegations of attempting to tamper with evidence and selling illegal drugs.
