The Turkish National Media, also known as TRT, has started a new African section that will publish news online in Hausa and other African and non-African languages. The media company lists Swahili, English, and French as additional languages.

On Friday, TRT President Mehmet Zahid Sobac officially opened the new department at the “First Media Summit” that TRT and the African Union for Broadcasting hosted in Istanbul.

Sobaci said that the media of the Western world have been reporting unfair news about the African continent for centuries.

He added that the TRT Afrika division will focus on reporting content that is “purely African.”

This means that Africans will be able to tell their stories in a way that is true to them and doesn’t change the plot.

According to Sobaci, there will be news about the youth, the fascinating and inventive African culture, and other thrilling things that are rarely heard from Africa.

“TRT Africa will be a mirror that shows Turkey’s policies” and its relationship with Africa, he said.
