The debate over “who is the GOAT?” does not seem to be going away, as evidenced by Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al Nassr honoring him once more for breaking the “all-time international appearance record” in football.

Ronaldo, a five-time winner of the UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d’Or, surpassed Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait’s record of 196 appearances for his country when Portugal defeated Liechtenstein in their opening Euro 2024 qualifying game.

The Portugal legend has been making history since his stays at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.   Media statistics have shown that he has scored 832 total goals so far, surpassing Josef Bican with 805 goals and Argentina captain Lionel Messi with 802 goals.

Messi, the football star and PSG forward, is always likened to Cristiano Ronaldo because of the records he has also made for Barcelona and his national team, Argentina.

He won seven Ballon d’Ors, four UEFA Champions League trophies, and La Liga and Copa Del Rey titles.   He recently left United after granting a controversial interview to Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club and accused them of “betraying” him.

The question that is still lingering in the world of football is: who is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo or Argentina’s Lionel Messi?
