A fire outbreak has damaged over 150 shops at the ‘Yan Katako market in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State.

It was discovered that the fire began on Wednesday at about 1 a.m. and continued until the morning.

Hamisu Buhari, the market’s chief security officer, revealed that the fire started when Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company restored electricity and an electric pole fell on the roof of one of the shops.

He disclosed that attempts to recruit local fire service agencies had failed, adding that when he personally visited the Kofar Doka Fire Service office, he was told that their working truck was in poor condition.

He was quoted as saying, “I finally contacted the fire service at the Sabon Gari Main Market. They asked me to provide fuel for them, which I did before they could come to the scene.”
