The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has condemned the killing of Usman Buda, who was allegedly murdered in Sokoto over blasphemous.

The Chairman of MURIC in Sokoto State, Mr Muhammad Aliyu,  who issued a statement from Lagos, urged Muslims to refrain from taking the law into their hands, saying doing so will not arrest the situation.

“The good people of Sokoto woke up and learnt about the murder of one butcher called Buda over an alleged blasphemous comment against our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW).” He said.

The MURIC Chairman clarified that Islam does not permit individuals to act as they please or take the law into their hands. Rather, the authority shall be contacted to arrest and bring offenders to book.

Aliyu pointed out that numerous Qur’anic verses, including Qur’an 4:65, 6:57, 12:40, and 43:10, support the position that while Islamic law imposes a death sentence for insulting, defaming, or bringing disrepute to Prophet Muhammad, the act of execution should not be left in the hands of individuals

He added that Islamic law necessitates the establishment of blasphemy offenses through witness testimonies presented in a court of law.

“ While we condemn the murder of Buda, we also in the strongest term, urge Muslims to stop jungle justice and allow the law to take its course,”he warned.
