Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has asked Switzerland’s authorities for assistance and collaboration in the areas of education, healthcare, and human development.

Governor Aliyu of Sokoto

Ahmed Aliyu made the call when Nicolas Lang, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, paid him a courtesy call at Government House, where he requested Switzerland’s assistance to assist in actualizing Sokoto state’s efforts to supporting vulnerable populations such as out-of-school children, IDP camps, and homeless people.

“All these groups need your serious support in line with the intervention you are giving to our country Nigeria. My administration is always ready to collaborate with any country or body working towards making the lives of our people better,” he added.

Governor Aliyu appreciated the Envoy for coming and told him that his administration was ready to work with his nation for the state’s overall benefit.” He said.

Earlier, Governor Aliyu was informed by Ambassador Nicholas Lang, who was represented by Press Secretary for Humanitarian and Development Cooperation, Nicholas Martins that Switzerland has been carrying out humanitarian projects in close coordination with the Nigerian government since 2014.

“We have not been blind to the fact that there are also the humanitarian needs in the North Western part
of the country, arising from the raging banditry crisis.

“We are doing advocacy at our level here to our headquarters to enable us go beyond our area of focus so far which was the North East,” Lang added.

The project, he claimed, is the first from Switzerland in the country and focuses on nutrition, water, and sanitation.

He praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his interest in and dedication to working with his nation to address humanitarian concerns.
