Zamfara Governor Trims Number of Ministries

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state has signed an Executive Order to reduce the number of state government departments from 28 to 16.

Sulaiman Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, stated this in a statement he released on Thursday, saying that the measure was intended to reduce waste in government and get rid of redundant tasks.

Idris said that the Executive Order was signed by Governor Lawal in the Council Chambers of the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

Agriculture, Budget and Planning, Science and Technology, Environment and Natural Resources, Finance, Health, and Commerce and Trade and Industry are among the newly approved ministries.

Other areas include: justice, housing and urban development, local government and chieftaincy affairs, religion, women’s affairs and social development, works and infrastructure, youth and sport, and internal security and home affairs. Information and culture are also included.
