At least 18 persons who were suspected to be heading to a party in Benin Republic, lost their lives in a car accident on the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

The incident occurred when the bus they were being conveyed on collided with a stationary truck, resulting in both the bus driver and the conductor losing their lives.

The late passengers had earlier chartered the bus from Lagos State’s Yaba area to attend a group party in Benin Republic.

The collision took place around 9 am at Age-Mowo near Mowo along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, on Sunday.

Taofiq Adebayo, a spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said the accident involved a Mazda commercial bus and a truck loaded with sand.

Adebayo added that the driver of the commercial bus lost control while attempting to overtake the sand-loaded tipper truck ahead of him.

“As a result, a total of 20 people, including the 18 passengers, the bus driver, and the conductor, lost their lives in the accident. They were transported to the morgue at the Badagry General Hospital.” He narrated.
