Hausa Language has been added to the list of official languages of communication during plenary sessions of  the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

This followed a proposal by Honourable Auwal Hassan, representative for the Shira Constituency, in the PDP dominated Assembly.

Hassan noted that Order 3 Rule 8 of the 2017 Standing Orders of the Bauchi State House of Assembly mandates that all sessions and debates to take place in English.

He proposed that the House might conduct its sessions and other activities in one or more additional languages being communicated by Nigerians.

Auwal Hassan stated that Hausa should be added as a second official language alongside the English considering its dominance in Bauchi.

“Hausa being the most popular spoken language in Bauchi State, is used for communication by over 90 percent of people living across the state. It should be adopted in addition to English as the second official language in conducting business of the House.” He proposed.

Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada, who seconded the motion, praised his colleague for the motion and recalled that he had introduced a similar motion in the 9th Assembly.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman called for a voice vote, and the motion was unanimously approved by the House.
