Four people lost their lives as eleven others sustained injuries in a tragic incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the details of the incident.

According to Mr. Akinbiyi, the accident occurred at approximately 9:59 a.m. and was caused by a tire burst, resulting in the bus overturning into a nearby ditch.

He said “There were a total of fifteen persons on board the bus, consisting of three men and twelve women. Unfortunately, three men and one woman lost their lives, while eleven women sustained injuries.”

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, with the registration number AGL 989 YA, was traveling from Ibadan towards Lagos when the tire burst occurred at the Ayetoro section of the expressway, leading to the somersaulting of the bus.

The deceased have been transported to the Idera morgue in Sagamu, while the injured victims have been taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for medical treatment.

Mr. Akinbiyi has, however, urged drivers to avoid excessive speeding, the use of secondhand tires (commonly referred to as “tokunbo” tires), and to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
