Security Agents Apprehend Suspected Bandits On Return From Hajj

Suspected bandits, their wives and informants were apprehended by security personnel as they arrived Nigeria from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after this year’s pilgrimage.

The suspects are from the Zamfara State local governments of Tsafe, Zurmi, Bungudu, and Shinkafi.

According to Premium Times, the suspected terrorists, who travelled to Saudi Arabia alongside Nigerian pilgrims from Zamfara, were reportedly arrested at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto State last week.

Reacting to the arrest, a top source from the Zamfara State Hajj Committee who asked to be anonymous told journalists that the State’s Pilgrim Welfare Board is has been informed of the development.

He added, “When the first flight came, we were asked to delay the pilgrims from coming down the plane. After that, we were asked to take them to a hall in the airport where we saw security agents, including those in uniform and in plain clothing. Our airport contact person asked us to withdraw and allow the security guys to do their work.”

Although the spokesperson for 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ibrahim Yahaya, said he was not in the know of the arrests, the Police spokesperson in the state, Yazid Abubakar, was not able to provide more information in respect to the incident.
