The Governor of Katsina Dikko Umaru Radda has disclosed his plan of creating a Ministry of Internal Security to address the security challenges in the state.
Radda made this known when he welcomed decampees from the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, to the rulling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Government House on Sunday.
Among the defectors were all the Katsina NNPP executive officials as well as supporters from across the state’s three senatorial zones.
Radda, at the event, explained that the new ministry would be responsible for strengthening internal security, urging the citizens to support his administration.
According to Governor Radda his administration will not relent in proffering a lasting solution to Katsina’s security challenges.
Meanwhile, Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said the Katsina Governor at the event emphasized that the planned Executive Order to restrict the movement of commercial motorcycles and tricycles, known as Keke NAPEP in the state was not intended to victimize anybody, rather part of efforts to deal with banditry in Katsina.
He called on motorists and commercial Keke NAPEP operators who are yet to register their vehicles to do so within the three weeks’ grace window.
While saying the government would recruit more young men from the frontline local government areas facing security challenges, to support security personnel in their areas as armed vigilantes, Radda urged the people to report the presence and movement of criminals and their informants in their localities.
