Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, has expressed strong disagreement with the World Bank’s decision to halt loans to the country due to its stance against LGBTQ practices, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to its cultural principles and sovereignty.

TCR learned that Museveni believes that Uganda can find alternative funding sources, particularly with the upcoming oil production in 2025, while remaining determined not to compromise on their beliefs.

It was gathered that the move has sparked global criticism, with actions such as visa restrictions imposed by the United States on Ugandan officials, and a review of U.S. aid to Uganda initiated by President Joe Biden.

The World Bank’s current investment in Uganda stands at $5.2 billion.
