Protesters have blocked the Makurdi-Lafia Highway due to the tragic killing of five persons in two villages within the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to Daily Trust Newspaper, women and youths gathered early Friday morning, causing a roadblock on the highway connecting Makurdi to Lafia and Abuja.

Travellers are stuck with no vehicular movement in or out of Makurdi.

The victims were attacked separately by gunmen, who struck Ngban, taking three lives on Thursday, and then attacked Nyian on Friday morning, leading to two more casualties.

It was gathered that the incident follows a previous attack earlier this year that resulted in the loss of over 30 lives, including IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).

Christopher Waku, the special adviser on security for the local government, has confirmed the killings.

Also, the protesting women demand to speak with Governor Hyacinth Alia and they vowed not to clear the road until he addresses them
