The Nigerian Army announced the rescue of Mary Nkeki, a 27-year-old Chibok girl who was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014 along with over 200 other students from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok.

The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi said this during the hand over of the girl to the Borno Ministry of Women Affairs, on Monday in Maiduguri.

“While in captivity, she was forcefully married to one Adam, a Boko Haram terrorist fighter.

“Since her rescue, she has undergone thorough medical examination in our medical facility.

“Equally, she has been adequately resuscitated and would be handed over to Borno State Government for further administration,” he said.

It was gathered that she was rescued by troops on August 14 in Dikwa, while after undergoing medical examination and receiving care, she will be handed over to the Borno State Government.

Nkeki revealed that her time in captivity was marked by suffering, and she managed to escape with her husband and was later found by a military patrol team.
