The Spanish government has escalated its demand for transparency and immediate action from the country’s football federation following a controversial incident involving President Luis Rubiales.

The incident in question revolves around Rubiales planting a kiss on the lips of Spain’s Women’s World Cup player, Jenni Hermoso, following her team’s victory against England in the final held in Sydney on Sunday.

The action has triggered widespread criticism and outrage, both within the football community and in society at large.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) faced mounting pressure to address the situation, leading to the announcement of an emergency meeting set for Friday.

To address the concerns, the RFEF has initiated an internal investigation into the incident, aiming to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the controversial kiss.

“I imagine that what the responsible people will do is talk to the two parties involved and issue a report,” stated Francos, a representative of the Spanish government, during an interview with radio station Cadena Ser.

He further emphasised the need for transparency and urgency in the preparation of the report.

Francos warned that without transparency and timely action, the government would be compelled to take additional measures to address the situation effectively.

President Rubiales, 46, initially responded with defensive remarks aimed at his critics. However, as public discontent grew, he eventually issued an apology. Despite his apology, criticism of Rubiales’ behaviour has continued unabated.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez echoed this sentiment, expressing that Rubiales’ apology for the kiss falls short of expectations.
