The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has swiftly addressed misconceptions arising from a recent incident involving a letter from its Kano State office.

Reports circulated about INEC withdrawing from the appeal process in the ongoing Kano Governorship election petition case.

In an official statement released today, Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, clarified that the letter in question was unauthorized and promptly withdrawn.

The Citizen Reports learned that the electoral commission officer responsible has been sanctioned for this unauthorislzed action.

Olumekun emphasized that INEC has not withdrawn from the case or abandoned the appeal.

He affirmed that when litigants involve INEC in a case, the Commission is obligated to respond accordingly.

To uphold this commitment, INEC has instructed its lawyers to proceed as per the established policy, which remains unchanged.

This clarification aims to dispel any doubts regarding INEC’s active participation in the ongoing legal process related to the Kano State Governorship election petition case.
