The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has unveiled plans to restructure the operations of its National Medical Team (NMT) in a bid to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline personnel numbers, according to a statement released by Mousa Ubandawaki, Deputy Director of Information and Publications.

The acting chairman of NAHCON, Jalal Arabi, disclosed this development following the receipt of a report from the committee tasked with reviewing NMT guidelines.

The announcement was made at the boardroom of the Hajj House in Abuja on Friday.

Arabi noted that the restructuring aims to ensure accessible and healthy operations during Hajj, aligning with the nation’s current economic realities.

One notable proposal is the introduction of volunteerism in the appointment of medical personnel to the NMT. Under this concept, appointed individuals would receive support such as travel visas, accommodation, transportation, and stipends.

“The re-structuring of the operation of the NMT is expected to ensure accessibility and healthy operation that will help to achieve cost reduction, and the number of personnel in the face of the nation’s current economic reality,” stated Mr. Arabi.

Expressing gratitude to the committee members, Arabi assured them that the report would be thoroughly studied to develop a comprehensive working plan.

“I want to thank you profoundly for your sacrifice and to assure you that we will work on the report dispassionately,” he affirmed.

This restructuring initiative underscores NAHCON’s commitment to effective healthcare management during Hajj operations, aiming for a more sustainable and cost-effective approach amid economic challenges.
