The Federal Government has updated recruitment guidelines for the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services to ensure greater inclusion of women.

Going forward, 35 percent of the recruitment slots for these services will be reserved for women.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after a meeting of the Board of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services in Abuja.

The minister, represented by the Board’s Secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, noted that ongoing Federal Fire recruitment would prioritise professionalism, gender mainstreaming, and adherence to Federal Character principles.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted that the federal government, through the Board, approved a comprehensive review of recruitment and promotion guidelines for all four services under the Ministry of Interior.

This overhaul also includes the modernization of the Nigeria Immigration Service, encompassing training, recruitment, promotion, professionalism, capacity building, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.

The minister further revealed that the services would soon release specific timelines for recruitment across all sectors.

TCR noted that this move aligns with the growing calls for increased women’s representation in the public sector, aiming to implement a 35 percent inclusion of women in appointments.
