No fewer than 35,000 ad-hoc staff would be deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the February 3 rerun and by-elections.

The elections will be conducted in 8,890 polling units, according to a document posted by INEC on its X handle.

The by-elections will be held in nine states in 4,294 polling units while reruns will be held in 4,596 polling units.

With 8,890 polling units, each unit would be assigned one presiding officer and three assistant presiding officers; making a total of 35,560 ad hoc to be deployed.

Apart from the POs and the APOs, Supervisory Presiding Officers would be deployed to man various polling units.

Though the commission has opened its portal for observers and media organisations to register, it has yet to open the portal for ad-hoc staff applications for the rerun/by-elections.

INEC on Wednesday published the final list and particulars of candidates for by-elections coming up in parts of the country.

It noted further that the list and personal particulars of candidates for rerun elections to be held on February 3, 2024, were published before the 2023 general elections.

Similarly, senatorial elections will be held in Yobe East and Plateau Central following court orders.

At the state level, elections will be conducted to fill vacant positions in Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, Zamfara, Benue and Borno states.
