Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals, has affirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to putting an end to illicit mining within the country’s mining sector.

During a condolence visit to the Oyo State Government after the recent explosion in Bodija estate, Ibadan, Alake disclosed that influential individuals in Nigeria are linked to the banditry associated with illegal mining.

According to the minister, much of the banditry, terrorism, and insecurity linked to the mining sector are orchestrated by powerful figures involved in illegal mining.

Alake emphasized that collaboration exists among various segments of society, spanning high, medium, and low classes.

The Federal Government, he stated, is actively collaborating with state and local governments, as well as knowledgeable host communities, to address these issues through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies.

While expressing condolences, Alake mentioned that the government will await the final report of forensic investigations into the Bodija estate explosion before making critical decisions.

He cautioned against making presumptuous statements and assured that the government would rely on authentic forensic reports to inform judgments and decisions concerning the incident and its victims.

Alake urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their surroundings promptly.

He emphasized the importance of safety consciousness, stating that early reporting is crucial to averting negative outcomes.
