Bauchi Government Extends Aid to Displaced Communities in Toro

In response to the recent influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from civil unrest in Plateau State, the Bauchi State government has taken proactive measures to support affected communities.

Over 2,085 IDPs across five settlements in Toro local government area received food, non-food items, and cash assistance in a relief distribution initiative.

The displaced individuals, who sought refuge in Tilden Fulani, Gwaljarandi, Magama Kara, Gajaule, and Takanda settlements, were provided with essential items including 100 bags of maize, 65 bags of rice, 25 gallons of vegetable oil, 5 cartoons of maggi, 5 bags of salt, 135 mats, 135 blankets, assorted utensils, and a sum of N1 million in cash.

The distribution event was spearheaded by the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon Hajara Yakubu Wanka.

In her address to the IDPs, Commissioner Wanka conveyed the governor’s sympathy and noted the government’s commitment to assessing their needs.

The aim is to explore further avenues for enhancing the living conditions in the camps, including the provision of basic infrastructure.

Expressing gratitude to the Toro Local Government for hosting the IDPs, Wanka urged the displaced individuals to maintain peaceful coexistence with their host communities, fostering a sense of unity during challenging times.

Deputy Caretaker Committee Chairman of Toro Council, Idris Abdullahi, commended the humanitarian team for their swift response in reaching out to the displaced communities.

He assured the Commissioner of the council’s dedication to ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of the provided items among all deserving beneficiaries.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to alleviating the immediate needs of those affected by crises, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in times of adversity.
