Residents of Minna, the capital of Niger State, took to the streets on Monday to voice their discontent over the escalating cost of living in the country.

The protest saw demonstrators, including women and youths, block major roads within the metropolis, demanding urgent government intervention.

Chanting protest songs that echoed their frustrations, the residents expressed their concerns about the skyrocketing prices of essential goods.

Despite the presence of security agents, including policemen, the demonstrators persisted in their efforts to draw attention to the hardships they face.

According to Channels TV, the protesters cited the increasing costs of food items and perceived government inaction as the catalyst for their bold demonstration.

By blocking key roads, they aimed to convey a powerful message, urging the government to address their grievances promptly.

Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, addressing the agitated crowd, acknowledged the challenges faced by families due to the current economic strain.

He assured the residents that the government is actively working on measures to alleviate the burden on citizens, particularly in response to the recent petrol subsidy removal.

Garba affirmed the government’s awareness of the pain felt by the populace and expressed commitment to implementing policies aimed at reducing the overall cost of living.

The Deputy Governor called for patience and cooperation, assuring the residents that their concerns were being heard and addressed through ongoing efforts to mitigate the economic challenges faced by the community.
