A tragedy occurred in Nasarawa village, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, as a 20-year-old newlywed, Aisha Aliyu, allegedly murdered her husband, Idris Ahmadu.
The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, has left the community in shock and disbelief.
According to reports from residents, the couple tied the knot on December 31, 2023. However, a minor dispute arose between them on Sunday evening, which they appeared to have resolved before retiring to bed. It was not until midnight that the mother of the deceased heard her son’s agonizing screams.
Upon rushing to the scene alongside other concerned residents, they were met with a horrific sight—Idris Ahmadu lying in a pool of his own blood, attempting to flee but succumbing to his injuries at the doorstep. Shockingly, his wife, Aisha Aliyu, was nowhere to be found.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Aisha allegedly first stabbed her husband in the chest before gruesomely slaughtering him.
Speculation arose regarding the motive behind the brutal act, with some suggesting that Aisha may have harboured resentment despite outward reconciliation.
Sources close to the couple revealed that while they had been in a relationship for years, Aisha initially expressed a desire to marry someone else before eventually agreeing to marry Idris. However, it appears that underlying tensions persisted, leading to the tragic outcome.
Confirming the incident, Daily Trust quoted the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, as saying, “Today 12/02/2024 (Monday), at about 1200hrs, information was received that in the early hours, one Idris Ahmadu of Nasarawa village, via Lapai was stabbed to death by his wife, Aisha Aliyu 19/20yrs of the same address.”
He further added, “Before the arrival of the police at the scene, the suspect had fled to an unknown destination, while effort is being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect. Case under investigation please.”
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing underlying issues within relationships and highlights the need for interventions to prevent such occurrences.
