In a significant development, the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, situated in Abuja, has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Peoples Party (APP) contesting the victory of Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo in the gubernatorial election.

Following the declaration of Ododo as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the November 11, 2023, election, several opponents contested the outcome in court.

However, on Tuesday, the APP, represented by counsel Daniel Edeachi, Esq., formally withdrew its petition.

Notably, the withdrawal faced no opposition from the legal representatives of Governor Usman Ododo, Ibrahim Sanni Muhammed, SAN; the APC represented by DC Denwigwe, SAN; and the INEC represented by Kanu Agabi, SAN.

Upon careful consideration of the affidavit of no objection submitted by the respondents’ counsels, the Tribunal, under the leadership of Hon. Justice Ado Yusuf Birnin – Kudu, ruled to strike out the petition on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
