Former Barcelona and Brazil fullback Dani Alves has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for sexual assault.
The verdict was delivered by the court, sparking an immediate reaction from Alves’ legal team.
In a statement released today, Alves’ lawyer, Inés Guardiola, announced their intention to appeal the verdict, vehemently asserting Alves’ innocence.
Guardiola expressed confidence in overturning the ruling, noting their belief in Alves’ innocence despite the court’s decision.
In addition to the prison sentence, Alves has been handed five years of supervised release and is prohibited from communicating with the victim for nine years and six months.
Furthermore, he has been ordered to pay €150,000 in compensation to the victim, along with covering legal costs associated with the case.
