Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, has expressed concern over the state’s general hospitals, lamenting that none has seen any renovations in the past two decades.

Addressing a gathering at the government house in Kaduna on Thursday, Governor Sani affirmed the urgent need for improvements in the healthcare sector.

Receiving a visit from APC stakeholders representing all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to mark the Eid-el-Fitr festivities, Governor Sani hinted at the challenges faced by residents who are compelled to seek medical treatment in neighboring states due to the poor condition of local hospitals.

He was quoted as saying, “In the last one month, I have received reports from our deputy governor, who is one of the most prominent, established public health specialists in Nigeria, that our 32 general hospitals in Kaduna as we speak, most of them are not functional.”

“This is unacceptable. That is why we have decided to remodel and reconstruct at least six of the 32 general hospitals,” he added.

Governor Sani expressed his government’s commitment to revamping the healthcare system by focusing on renovating, rebuilding, and upgrading six general hospitals.

The initiative aims to target two hospitals in each of the state’s three senatorial zones, with the project set to commence in the coming days.

“We have to invest in healthcare, particularly at the secondary healthcare level. Most of these hospitals have not been given attention in the last 20 years, and that is the reason they are in their current situation,” Governor Sani said.

As the state embarks on this ambitious renovation project, residents hope to see improved access to quality healthcare services closer to home.
