Private Mohammed Adamu, with service number 21NA/80/0365, has been identified as the alleged killer of a pregnant woman, Hauwa, who was found stabbed inside the 82nd (Airborne and Amphibious) Division of the Nigerian Army.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, the lifeless body of Hauwa, dressed in a hijab, was discovered on Friday by the daughter of an army lieutenant near the division’s officers’ quarters.
The body was found with a knife nearby, and she was wrapped in the hijab she was wearing.
According to two senior military officers, Adamu and Hauwa were lovers and hail from the same town in Biu local government area of Borno state.
Investigations revealed that Adamu was a repentant Boko Haram member who later joined the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and was subsequently enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2021.
The officers further disclosed, “Investigation revealed that Miss Hauwa and Pte Mohammed Adamu were both lovers and from the same town in Biu local government area of Borno state. He, Pte Mohammed Adamu paid her transport to come over to Enugu and killed her. He is currently in custody of the military police and his statement has been taken in which he confessed to the act.”
Adamu reportedly confessed to killing Hauwa due to alleged infidelity and stated that he was not ready to father any child.
He claimed the pregnancy was not his and lured her out before committing the act. The late Hauwa was pregnant with Adamu’s child before he killed her.
Despite the Nigerian Army denying the recruitment of ex-Boko Haram members, sources within the military stated otherwise.
“Not everything the army headquarters will agree to, we in the system understand better. These are the people we work with every day. They repent first and join the CJTF; it’s from the CJTF that they join the military. That’s how it’s being done, not that they join immediately after repentance,” one source said.
Another source confirmed Adamu’s arrest, stating, “I know Mohammed Adamu is in custody of the military police and has narrated that he killed Miss Hauwa and stabbed the baby in her stomach. Adamu is the bathman to Major HY Shehu, the persecuting counsel and also DDLS of 82 Division.”
The body of Hauwa has been deposited at the 82 division military hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
