Despite a recent spate of kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a director at the Department of State Services (DSS) has stated that the territory has experienced improved security under President Bola Tinubu.

Adamu Gwary, a DSS Director and Fellow of Defence College, made this assessment while evaluating the performance of the Tinubu-led administration on security in the FCT.

Gwary attributed the improved security situation to the proactive efforts of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who has engaged in intensive community outreach and provided logistical support to security agencies.

He noted that the minister’s initiatives, such as town hall meetings and provision of vehicles to traditional rulers, have helped to reduce reported cases of criminal activities.

While acknowledging that kidnappings and other security breaches still occur, Gwary emphasized that the frequency and severity of such incidents have decreased significantly since Wike assumed office in August 2023.

He also highlighted the success in addressing the issue of theft of manhood, which was previously a major concern.

Gwary’s assessment comes despite recent disturbing kidnap incidents in Abuja, including the abduction of at least 20 people from the Dawaki community.

Meanwhile, he noted that the security situation has improved overall, with reduced reported cases of criminal activities and increased community engagement in security efforts.
