The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a member of the State House of Assembly and a former local government chairman for their alleged involvement in banditry activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dalijan, made this revelation on Wednesday during a meeting with Thomas Parker, head of the Counterterrorism Unit at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, at the command headquarters in Gusau.

While the identities of the detained legislator and former council leader were not disclosed, Dalijan reiterated.the need for international support in combating terrorism.

He appealed to the United Nations for assistance in establishing a forensic laboratory in Zamfara, highlighting the challenge of having to travel to Lagos for forensic analysis.

The commissioner also urged the UN to replicate its initiative in Maiduguri, which has yielded positive results, in Zamfara State.

This development marks a significant step in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.

“The police are committed to tackling banditry and terrorism in Zamfara State, and we appreciate the support of the United Nations in this regard,” Dalijan said.

The arrest of the assembly member and former LG chairman is a clear indication that no one is above the law, and the police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice is served.
