Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has declared a state of emergency in the education sector, vowing to address the alarming number of out-of-school children in the state.

The declaration was made during a event where the governor distributed educational materials to schools, awarded scholarships to students, and provided soft loans to teachers.

“We have recruited over 5,000 new teachers, with plans to employ an additional 10,000,” Governor Yusuf announced. “We will also construct 1,000 new classrooms across the 44 local government areas in the state.”

The move comes as UNICEF reports that Kano has approximately one million out-of-school children, as of October 2023.

The state government aims to deliver quality education and tackle the pressing issue of access to education.

“We are committed to ensuring that every child in Kano has access to quality education,” Governor Yusuf said. “This declaration of a state of emergency is a testament to our dedication to improving the education sector.”

The event was a significant step towards addressing the educational challenges facing the state, and the governor’s declaration is expected to bring about positive changes in the sector.
