The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on Durbar activities during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usaini Gumel, the ban is necessary to maintain peace in the state.

The ban comes amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Kano Emirates tussle, which has seen deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero reject his dethronement and continue to claim the throne.

“In furtherance, a ban on all contending parties has been placed, restraining both from conducting Durbar activities for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations,” Gumel said.

Worshippers have been advised to conduct their normal Eid Prayers at designated praying grounds, as was traditionally done in the past.

The police command has also urged the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.

The ban on Durbar activities is seen as a measure to prevent any potential clashes between supporters of the deposed Emir Bayero and those of the newly reinstated Emir Lamido Sanusi.

The Kano State Government had recently repealed the 2019 law that split the Kano emirate into five, and reinstated Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano. However, Bayero has refused to recognize his dethronement and continues to operate from a mini palace in Nasarawa.

The police command has vowed to enforce the existing court order and maintain peace in the state during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
