President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nasiru Gawuna, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, as the chairman of the governing council of Bayero University, Kano.
This appointment is part of a larger reconstitution of governing boards across at least 31 tertiary institutions in the country.
Other members appointed to the Bayero University governing council include Abubakar Dauda, Nora Alo, Ibrahim Obanikoro, and Musa Abbas.
The reconstitution of the governing boards follows a directive by President Tinubu on May 23 for a comprehensive review of the governing boards of tertiary institutions.
The review was prompted by public outcry over the lack of federal character in the composition of the boards.
The president ordered the review to be completed before the inauguration and retreat for the nominees on May 31.
