The Rivers State Police Command has arrested the commander of a local vigilante group, Felix Nwaobakata, with two human skulls and other human parts at his hideout in Omoku.

Seven other members of the group were also arrested for various crimes, including murder.

According to Police Spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, Nwaobakata, commander of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), was a principal suspect in the murder of two brothers in Idu on May 1, 2024, allegedly for being kidnappers.

The arrests followed numerous complaints about the group’s operations, including attacks on a police division in Omoku and clashes with other security agencies.

The police recovered two human skulls and human bones from Nwaobakata’s possession.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, warned that the command would not tolerate any act of illegality, excessive force, or criminality by vigilante groups, while recognising their importance in community policing.

The police urged residents to report any complaints of assault, extortion, or illegal detention to the nearest police station. The command will continue to investigate and charge suspects to court.
