A protest against economic hardship turned chaotic on Thursday morning at the Government House in Kano State, as police fired gunshots and teargas to disperse the crowd.
The demonstrators, who had gathered from various parts of the city, were participating in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, demanding urgent action from the government to address soaring food inflation, general inflation, and other related economic concerns.
As the protest gained momentum, some individuals in the crowd began setting tyres ablaze near the gate, prompting a swift response from security forces. According to eyewitnesses, police fired gunshots and teargas in an attempt to disperse the protesters, who were expecting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to address them.
The incident highlights the growing tensions between protesters and security forces in Nigeria, as citizens demand action from the government to address pressing economic issues. The situation remains tense, with no reports of casualties or arrests made at this time.
