Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has denounced the burning of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kontagora town by suspected hoodlums, describing the attack as “mindless and cowardly.”

In a statement on Sunday, Governor Bago stated that the incident was not only an attack on the Christian community but also a direct affront to the state’s cherished peace and unity.

“We totally condemn this act and tell our Christian brothers and sisters, as well as other Niger inhabitants that the government prioritises their safety, security, and freedom of religion,” he said.

Governor Bago has directed security agencies to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, vowing that the perpetrators will be caught and prosecuted.

He urged the people of Kontagora to remain calm and refrain from reprisal attacks, noting the importance of preserving peace and unity.
