In the course of the investigation, the rapist in question has a troubling history of defiling minors, having previously raped own granddaughter.
The Citizen Reports launched an extensive investigation into the disturbing matter and found out that there are alarming reports that the victim’s mother is marrying the son of the 70-year-old man responsible for the rape abuse.
A statement from the Public Relations Officer of Human Rights and Peace Advocacy, Muhammad Garba revealed that, “We received a distressing call from a concerned resident in Unguwar Malamai, Tsamiya, Gezawa, it was reported that a 70-year-old individual has defiled a three-year-old.”
Garba informed TCR that their team responded promptly to advocate for the girl who was subjected to rape by the man. However, upon arriving in the area, they discovered that the he had already been taken into police custody.
Muhammad also shared a significant concern, stating that the three-year-old bravely opened up and confessed to the abuse.
He said, according to her account, the man lured her into his room with sweets on numerous occasions and subjected her to rape.
He expressed, “Despite her young age, the girl fearlessly communicated with us, disclosing all the troubling events that had taken place between her and the elderly man.”
“It is both extremely heart-wrenching and commendable that the young girl found the courage to speak about her ordeal. Her willingness to share her traumatic experience is crucial in ensuring that justice is served and the truth is brought to light.” Garba recounted.
Nonetheless, during our investigation, Garba revealed a concerning aspect of the case. He mentioned that due to the complex family ties involved, where the mother of the abused girl is married to the son of the alleged rapist, some people are urging the mother to exercise patience and not seek justice for her daughter.
Similarly, The Citizen Reports (TCR) attempted to contact the father of the victim, who is currently residing in Maiduguri. However, all efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful, as his whereabouts remain unknown.
Also, in early 2023, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) disclosed an alarming statistics, documenting fourteen cases of rape in Kano.
In addition human rights organizations, concerned citizens, and law enforcement shall work together to ensure that the investigation is thorough and fair and that the perpetrator of the indecent act faces the consequences of his actions.
