Nigerian on social media have continued to express disapproval of the plot by the federal government to attack the Niger juntas in an attempt to reinstall the ousted democratically elected President, Mohammed Bazoum.
The presidential guard in the French speaking country plotted a coup that exasperated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to impose sanctions on the country, including cutting off power supply.
Along with social media users, Muslim clerics and analysts have strongly expressed their opposition to the plot.
Featuring live on Rahma Radio Kano, a famous Kano Sunni scholar, Prof. Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo, spoke at length, showing the strong ties between the Niger Republic and the Northern part of Nigeria, especially in the areas of religion, culture, and security, among others.
Responding to the threats by the FG, a regular Facebook user, Sulaiman Badamasi wrote: “[Dear]Nigerian lawmakers, if truly you represent us, then don’t allow Tinubu to go into a war with Niger.”
Also, Dr. Muhsin Ibrahim said, “I am calling on members of the House of Representatives and senators from the North not to approve of President Tinubu’s plot to fight Niger. Huh! Fighting Niger?
“This is a topic that we should talk about because of its importance. I swear to God that war is a great disaster. Ask the people of Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Ukraine, etc.
“God bless Prof. Sani Rajiya Lemo, OON. He made a heart-wrenching statement on Rahma Radio’s program on fatwah. I will post the link in the comment section.”
Another popular user, Dikko Muhammad, warned: “The idea of military intervention in Niger would simply be very calamitous. It is capable of destabilising the region more and creating other vacuums for illegitimate forces to emerge.”
