Kayode Fayemi, the former governor of Ekiti State, has launched a scathing attack on Adams Oshiomhole, accusing the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of meddling in the selection of a gubernatorial candidate in Edo State.
In a strongly worded statement, Fayemi criticized Oshiomhole’s alleged attempt to impose a candidate on the party in Edo State, likening it to his previous actions during his tenure as national chairman.
Fayemi highlighted Oshiomhole’s controversial role in the exclusion of certain aspirants from the primaries and the subsequent loss of Edo State to the APC in the last election.
“It would appear the ground was being prepared by Oshiomhole yet again for the APC to lose the coming election in Edo State because of his unconscionable behavior,” Fayemi remarked, expressing concern over Oshiomhole’s influence on the electoral process.
However, Fayemi commended the party for demonstrating independence and impartiality by canceling and rescheduling the primaries.
He expressed hope that the fresh primaries would be conducted in a transparent and fair manner, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and the credibility of the APC.
Fayemi urged Oshiomhole to adopt a neutral stance in the selection process, emphasizing the importance of fairness and impartiality for the sake of the party’s unity and success.
He urged all stakeholders to uphold the principles of democracy and respect the will of the people in choosing the party’s candidate for the upcoming election in Edo State.
As tensions mount within the APC over the selection of its gubernatorial candidate, Fayemi’s remarks show the divisions within the party and the challenges it faces in maintaining unity and cohesion ahead of the crucial election in Edo State.
